What is the difference between flaxseed and linseed?
Although the terminology differs in different areas of the world, flax, flaxseed and linseed actually refer to the same seed which comes from the Linum usitatissimum plant. Typically, the name linseed is associated with industrial purposes such as making oils for paints, varnishes, and textiles, whereas flaxseed is primarily used to describe the seeds intended for human consumption or products in the health market.
What is the difference between gold and brown flax?
The only main difference between gold and brown flaxseed lies in their appearance and typical use. Golden linseeds are light golden/yellow in colour and tend to have a slightly milder, nuttier flavour making them a popular choice for adding to baked goods or cereals. Brown linseeds have a slightly earthier taste which some prefer in savoury dishes or wholegrain breads. Both varieties have similar nutritional profiles and can be used interchangeably for most recipes.
